Love Greek Islands Review
As with many of the Greek islands, Amorgos is famous for its beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters. It is also well known as the location for some scenes in the film The Big Blue. The island’s main beaches are Katapola and Aegiali, but there are lots of quieter beaches, some with a couple of tavernas and a few umbrellas and some with no tourist facilities at all, which can only be reached on foot, there is also a nudist beach. The main village is Chora in the centre of the island, a typically pretty island village with whitewashed walls, surrounded by windmills, and built around a Venetian castle with views over the sea. There are other smaller but similarly pretty villages around the island. You should not miss seeing the spectacular 11th century Monastery of Hozoviotissa, which is built on the slope of a cliff with fabulous views of the sea. From here it is possible to walk down to Agia Anna, a charming pebble beach which is good for snorkelling and diving. Although the main areas can be quite busy in the summer months, it is possible to find some peace and quiet and the island is also a fine location for walking.
